Special grade steels — including BÖHLER tool steel™, Type 4 Molybdenum Steel, T10, T8, 42CrMo, and Cr12MoV — are the industry-standard materials for press brake punch and die tooling. The punch and die assembly absorbs the majority of the forming force produced by the press brake, making high-strength hardened steel essential for sustained production performance and dimensional consistency.

For press brake tooling, Chromium-Molybdenum Steel (Chromoly) is widely regarded as the ideal base alloy — combining exceptional tensile strength, corrosion resistance, and a long service life capable of handling the full force range of industrial press brake applications.
